“I want to start a new fitness regiment but I cannot make up my mind. What should I do? Group training with some friends? Or 1 on 1 training— just me and a personal trainer?”
I get this question all the time and my answer is always, “What do you want to get out of it?” There are advantages to both. Here’s a list of advantages and disadvantages, if you need help making up your mind:
GROUP TRAINING
– Less expensive than 1 on 1.
– Group motivation: If you’re the type of person where a group of friends will keep you motivated, this is for you.
– Move as a group: Some people prefer moving with a group, and are motivated by trying to keep pace with a group as opposed to a personal trainer singularly focused on them. Keep in mind, however, that some people require more personal assistance; if you cannot keep pace with a group than this may be you.
1 ON 1 TRAINING:
– More expensive than group training.
– Singular motivation: If you’re the type of person where you take pride in personal accountability, and find motivation from that, than this is for you.
– Move as a focused individual: Some people prefer or require personal attention and focus from an individual trainer. If you want to purely focus on your own strength or cardio goals, than this may be for you.
– Special needs attention: If you think you would find more growth out of a focused 30 minute session where attention is given to strengthening your weaknesses, with a trainer tracking your personal progress and reaching new heights, than this would be a better option for you.
